 Effie Wu Zero Germany 2006 installation pl Zero to rzeźba wideo o wysokości jednego metra, składająca się z kolistego obracanego silnikiem ekranu ustawionego na podporze z pleksi. Ekran projekcyjny wyświetla 360 stopniowy widok dziedzińca, złożony z 24 sekwencji obrazów, tworzących okrąg. Na zegarze na godzinie 12 (lub też 0) znajduje się kobieta przechodząca przez dziedziniec, co oznacza, że przechodzi z jednej sekwencji w drugą, podczas gdy filmowe tło za nią zmienia się. Wyświetlany obraz i płaszczyzna wolno poruszającego się ekranu projekcyjnego są ze sobą powiązane. Ekran został namalowany odręcznie, przez co sprawia wrażenie porównywalne do starych fotografii. Dzięki jednakowej prędkości obrazu i napędzanego silnikiem projektora, ulegają one zespoleniu - obraz zyskuje wymiar fizyczny, jak gdyby materia filmowa przymocowana została do ekranu. Intensyfikowane jest to przez rzutowanie obrazu okrągłą powierzchnię, zamiast na tradycyjny prostokąt ekranu, na który nałożono by formatującą maskę. W pewnym sensie treść pracy stanowi ZEN. Koło obraca się w bardzo spokojnym rytmie, medytacyjnej, długotrwałej kontemplacji. W ten sposób medium wideo uwolnione zostaje od swojej prostokątnej formy. Zamiast tego format ekranu jest okrągły, niczym forma nieskończoności czy buddyzmu. en Zero is a video sculpture of one meter height, consisting of a circular projection screen, mounted on a plexiglass foot and driven by a motor with gear. The projection screen shows the 360'- view of an inner courtyard, consisting of 24 motion pictures, which are arranged in form of a wheel. On the 12 (or also 0) clock position there's a woman walking through the courtyard, which means, that she is walking out of one picture into the next, while the movie's background is turning behind her. Projected film and the texture of the slowly turning projection screen are linked. The projection screen is painted from hand and therefore makes an impression comparable to vintage photos. Due to the same turning speed of the video and of the motor - driven projection screen , both become integrated, the video becomes physical, as if the original film material would have been fixed on the screen. This is intensified, by projecting a video on a round surface, instead of using the usual rectangular framework together with a black mask. In a sense the content of the work is ZEN. The wheel turns in at very calm rhythm, meditative with long time contemplation. Therefore the medium video is liberated from its rectangular form. In 1993 he started studies at National University of the Arts in Taipei, Tajwan, which he concluded in 1999. Meantime, in 1995, he founded the rockband “Cat – Fight” with 1999 appearing album “Cat – Fight, Cut out” by Crystal Independent in Taipei. Between 1999 and 2002 he lived in Florence, Milano and Munich. In 2002 he moved to Berlin where he has been living since then. In 2004 he took up “Experimentelle Mediengestaltung” at the University of the Arts Berlin, classes Vedder and Sauter. |
